The examiner will watch to be sure you are performing traffic checks, stopping at the correct location, observing all traffic signs and signals, etc. The examiner will not ask you to do anything illegal. This includes determining if it is safe to perform all maneuvers including backing your vehicle. You should drive at all times as if other traffic is present. The examiner will give you instructions at least one block in advance of turns or before asking you to perform other maneuvers. The examiner will ask you if you have any questions before you begin the actual driving test. If you do not understand any instruction the examiner gives you, be sure to let him/her know. Drivers under the age of 18 who have completed a driver education course, behind the wheel training, and 50 hours of supervised driving may qualify for a road test waiver through December 31, 2023 when the pilot program ends.
